Wokingham has seen significant investment and redevelopment in its town centre in recent years. The town has managed to modernise without losing the character that makes it special, which is harder to pull off than it sounds.

The retail offer has improved considerably with a large Tesco, a Lidl and a brand new Aldi that has recently opened opposite Elms Field Playground, giving residents a genuinely competitive range of supermarket options within easy reach of the town centre.

Wokingham has some outstanding schools and this is one of the primary reasons families choose to put down roots here. Getting around

Wokingham station provides regular services to London Waterloo as well as a direct link to Gatwick Airport, which is one of those practical advantages that frequent travellers genuinely appreciate. Not having to navigate into central London to catch a flight makes a real difference to quality of life and it is something Wokingham residents quietly love about living here. The town is also well connected by road to Reading, Bracknell and the M4 corridor.

Elms Field Playground is one of our favourite spots in Wokingham, particularly during the summer months when it hosts food stalls, festivals and community events on alternate weekends. My daughter absolutely loves it there and it is the kind of local amenity that makes a town feel genuinely family-friendly rather than just claiming to be. Whether you are after a morning out with young children or an afternoon browsing street food in the sun, Elmsfield delivers.

The pubs, the nightlife and Cookie

You genuinely cannot talk about Wokingham without talking about its pub scene. The town has an extraordinary number of pubs for its size and the nightlife is consistently one of the things locals mention when you ask them why they love living here. The Lord Raglan and the Redan are both absolute staples of the Wokingham social scene and the newer venues opening in the plaza have added a fresh dimension to what was already a strong offer.

For a proper pub lunch in a genuinely warm atmosphere, our personal recommendation is the Broad Street Tavern. The hosts are friendly, the food is excellent and there is a very good reason to visit beyond the menu. Cookie, the pub's resident dog, has become something of a local celebrity and genuinely loves spending time with guests. She is an absolute joy and if you are a dog lover, meeting Cookie alone is worth the trip. We love going there.
